Writing your first event

Now that you've completed setting up your account, there are a few steps to complete to be able to stream your first event.  The list below is a step by step guide to get you connected and streaming your first event.

Step #1: Download and install Connector Application

StreamText offers a free connector application that allows you to connect and write to the service.  The connector allows you to write directly to the application or to write through a COM port.  Details for the connector application can be found at

http://support.streamtext.net/KB/c5/connector.aspx

Step #2: Log-in to StreamText and schedule event

Go to www.streamtext.net and click the "Sign-In" link on the left menu.  Enter the email address and password that you used when you created the account.

After sign-in is complete, click on the "Schedule Event" link that should now be available on left menu.

If you are writing directly to the StreamText.Net Connector application and not using any COM ports, then select "Standard Text" as your parsing format.

If you are using the COM port option in the StreamText.Net Connector application,
make sure to select a "Parsing Format" that will line-up with the output from your writing software.   For example, if you select "Case-View" as your parsing format, you'll want to make sure you select "Case-View" as your output format in your writing software during the next step.

Complete the form for scheduling the event and click "Update Scheduled Event".

Step #3: Starting real-time and connecting to event

If you are writing directly to the StreamText.Net Connector application follow these steps.
  • Click the "Connect and Write" button in the StreamText.Net Connector application
  • Start up your writing software
  • Place your cursor in the StreamText.Net Connector application and begin writing

Another alternative is to write to the StreamText.Net Connector application using COM ports.  Here is a link to an article that details the steps to accomplish that.

That's it.  After completing those 3 steps you should be streaming text real-time over the internet.  When you set-up future events, you'll only need to perform steps #2 and #3.
